The SJC Pipeline Construction will begin in our neighborhood on Monday, December 3, 2007. This includes construction of a tunnel at the intersection of Carlisle Blvd. and Pershing Avenue. This tunnel will minimize disruption of traffic by laying the pipeline under Carlisle Blvd. Pershing will be closed east and west of Carlisle Blvd., but Carlisle will remain open. Crews will work from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, but may work on Sundays as needed. This work is expected to last through approximately Monday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve). MOTORISTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE LEAD AVE., COAL AVE. OR GIBSON BLVD.AS ALTERNATE ROUTES.

The San Juan-Chama Drinking Water Project will be coming to our neighborhood around the end of the year. The Burton Pipeline will be installed in four zones. Zone 4 will consist of laying 42” transmission pipeline from the Burton Pump Station, north of Wellesley Dr. to Santa Clara, east on Santa Clara to Amherst Dr., north on Amherst to Pershing Ave., east on Pershing to Hermosa Dr., north on Hermosa Dr. to Central where the pipeline ties into the south side of the tunnel underneath Central. This work is expected to last from late December to early April 2008.

Starting late the week of August 20th, a crew will begin installing temporary water services to homes on Marquette between San Mateo and Monroe. Water will be temporarily turned off at times; however, crews will notify residents in advance.

Mayor Martin Chavez and ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne have announced a series of February public meetings to gather input on the expansion of Rapid Ride bus service.
A total of nine meetings will be held – one in each City Council district – as the Transit Department determines how best to utilize six new Rapid Ride buses that will be arriving by early February.

At the SEHNA 2004 Annual Meeting last fall, members expressed concern about traffic on various streets in our neighborhood. SEHNA relayed the concerns to the City of Albuquerque Traffic Engineering Department and their response arrived in February 2005 following studies of the streets which included Pershing, Burton, Ridgecrest, Parkland Circle, Carlisle, Valverde, and the streets bordering Hyder Park.
